Buganda Royal Institute Department of Communication and Education

The Department of Communication and Education is primarily concerned with training students in Planning, Managing, Storage, and Dissemination of Information regarding the critical issues that make news in Society. Further, the Department also equips students with practical knowledge and skills in handling and use of Information Communication Technology, Public Relations, as well as Training Teachers who teach in Kindergarten and Infant Schools.

The Department is comprised of four Units namely:

• Journalism and Mass Communication,
• Information and Communication Technology (ICT),
• Secretarial Studies and,
• Early Childhood Development (Kindergarten and Infant Studies).

The Department offers Training at Diploma and Certificate levels on Day, Evening, Weekend and In-services in the following Programs:

• Diploma in Computer Science.
• Diploma in Journalism.
• A Diploma in Secretarial Studies.
• Diploma in Kindergarten and Infant Studies (In-service)
• Certificate In Information and Communication Technology (CICT)
• Certificate in Journalism.
• A Certificate in Kindergarten and Infant Studies.
• Certificate in Secretarial Studies.

Training in ICT involves equipping students with skills and knowledge in repairing Computer Hardware and Software, Smart Phones, Ipads, and other computer related devices. Further, students are trained in developing Applications, Softwares computers repair and maintenance, developing and managing computer networks among others. This kind of training makes them competitive in the Computer era currently in Uganda and world over.

Graduation

Upon graduation, ICT students qualify to work as Computer Technicians, Network Administrators, Database Administrators, Programmers, Website Administrator and System Administrators.
Training in Journalism and Mass Communication involves equipping students with practical skills and knowledge in using TV and Radio studio equipment, Public Relation, News Writing, Photography, Video Editing and Photo Editing. Our students today are part of prominent News editors, TV and Radio presenters, Reporters, Public Relation Officers, Events Managers, Film Producers, Photographers, among others.

Secretarial Unit

In Secretarial Unit, students are equipped with skills and knowledge of using traditional and modern office equipment to match the changing office dynamics. Consequently, our graduates serve as Office Administrators, Front Office Managers/Receptionist, Secretaries, etc.

The Early Childhood Development Unit trains students in handling, entertaining teaching, and understanding challenges of infants as they grow up in school environment. Graduates in this area qualify to work as teachers in Kindergarten and Infant Schools.
