Kabale University Economics & Statistics Courses – Check the list of courses offered by the department of Economics & Statistics…

This is a recently created (July 2017) Department that was born out of Economics and Business Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

At the moment, the Department runs one degree programme – Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BAECON). The number of students on this degree programme is growing. This number together with other students of Economics across faculties including Education, Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering total up to 500 students. Currently therefore, it is largely a service department. As one way to boost student numbers in the Department, plans are ongoing to introduce the following undergraduate and higher degree programmes.

  • Bachelor of Economics and Statistics (BEAS)
  • Bachelor of Statistics (B.Stat)
  • Master of Arts in Economics (MA.ECON)
  • Master of Science in Statistics (M.Sc. Stat)
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Economics

The Department is headed by a Senior Lecturer in Economics, Dr. George Stanley Kinyata (PhD, MA, DIDS, B.A.Econ – Toulouse, France). Formerly, he served in a number of capacities: Lecturer at Makerere University, Chief Economist of Uganda Development Corporation, Senior Lecturer at Kampala International University 2009 -2016, Constituent Assembly Delegate for 1995 Constitution, Member of Parliament 1996 -2001, an Resident District Commissioner for Kampala 2002-2008, member of the Board of Directors of DFCU and Tropical Bank, and member of Uganda Economics Association.

As an Academic, Dr. George Stanley Kinyata has supervised over 100 Masters Research Students, ten (10) PhD students in Economics and jointly published a number of research articles in international peer reviews. He is now Chairperson of Research Proposal Hearing Committee and Dissertation Defence Committee of Kabale University, Directorate of Postgraduate Training. He is a very experienced Academician and a resourceful person in Management and Administration.
