POLICE GENDER POLICY TO UPHOLD DIGNITY OF WOMEN, MEN, BOYS AND GIRLS

The Uganda Police Force has held a Gender Dissemination and implementation training workshop at Silver Springs Hotel at Bugolobi in Kampala today 20th June 2019.
The workshop was presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Major General Sabiiti Muzeyi, who noted that in creating human beings, God did not segregate them basing on their gender differences. Therefore as human beings we should not use gender differences to segregate against fellow humans.
He also pointed out that the policy puts emphasis on key gender interventions for the force which include;
-Inclusion of modules on gender, human rights and child protection in the curriculum for initial training and foundation courses for Police officers.
-The role played by the Department of Women affairs
-The role of the child and Family protection unit at all policing levels
-The role played by the Sexual and Children’s Department under the directorate of CID
-The role of affirmative action in recruitment, training and promotion of female officers
The Uganda Police Force Gender Policy came into effect through a consultative Process, supported by UN Women as well as Police management. The Policy aims at establishing an inclusive and gender responsive Police Force that respects and upholds the dignity of women, men, boys and girls.
The dissemination and implementation training workshop was attended among others, by the representative of UN Women Madam Akajo Susan Oregede ,Regional Police Commanders as well as other senior Police Officers of Uganda Police Force.
