COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, OPEN, DISTANCE AND E-LEARNING (COEDL)
Introduction
The College of Education Open, Distance and E-Learning (CEODL) is one of the pioneer colleges since the inception of the University in August 2001. The College has expanded in many aspects including an increase in the number of students, lecturers and teaching facilities. The College provides fresh beginnings and infinite possibility for prospective students in order to meet the current yearning of robust and technology-based service delivery at all levels of education through contemporary engagement and digital teaching, research and global reach.
Considering that Education is the path, albeit hallmark of knowledge, which serves as the fulcrum for all professions or disciplines, the College has a crop of staff members, from national and international communities, with enviable intellectual and academic attainment that do not only connect students and intellectual resources beyond the classroom but teach students, as future teachers and education managers, how to impart such in others. With a thriving leadership and creative development of curriculum, the College can proudly boast of many Diploma, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral graduates established, and shaping lives in schools and all walks of life. Currently, the student population stands above 2000, including both undergraduates and postgraduates.
Objectives Of College Of Education, Open, Distance And E-Learning
The specific objectives of the College are the following:
- To fill the present and future gaps in the education system by breeding human resource that will provide effective, efficient, creative, and outstanding service delivery, in line with best practices, and change the world through education.
- To make remarkable and positive impacts in the world through distance and e-learning platforms.
- To help and support would-be professionals in education to attain more and greater heights.
- To provide opportunities for teachers to access further career development through an in-service arrangement
- To accurately and explicitly express the University’s mission and expectation for all, especially, staff, students and alumni in Uganda and beyond.
Status Of The College
The College is made up of two Schools: School of Education, and Digital School of Open, Distance and E-Learning. It also has various departments that handle specific fields of specialization. These include:
(a) Department of Arts and Science Education
(b) Department of Education Foundations
(c) Department of Special Needs Education and Access
d) Department of Distance Learning
e) Department of Professional Studies

Practical Training
Seminar/ Workshop for postgraduate students: The College organizes seminars and workshops for postgraduate students and staff regularly.
Achievements
The College is setting the pace in the university, through its announcement of 1st College of Education, Open and Distance Learning Conference to be held from 21st to 25th October 2019 at Kampala International University, Kampala, Uganda.
