The School of Education is one of the pioneer schools that started the academic progress of Kampala University. This school is made up of four departments that compose its accredited academic programs that conform to the National Council for Higher Education regularities. The School is mandated to produce competent and quality teachers of National and Global Impact.

Our programs are designed to prepare tomorrow’s teachers, administrators, policymakers, specialists, designers and researchers to be life-changing leaders. This underpins our commitment to prepare our students to meet the demanding needs of a constantly changing society and to excel in a variety of roles after graduating.

The School of Education also understands the changing needs and diverse schedules of today’s students, so we provide the in-service program.

ObjectivesThe programme aims at equipping students with competencies that shall enable them to teach Arts and Science subjects in secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Specifically, the Bachelor of Education Arts and Sciences degree programme has been proposed with the view of meeting the following needs/demands in the East Africa region:-

  1. To satisfy the demand for teachers at secondary school level.
  2. To satisfy the demand for trainers at tertiary institutions.

The need for trained manpower in Arts and Science related subjects in research and non – governmental institutions in East African region.

The need to further education in Arts and Sciences as well as acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes in these areas of specialization.

The need for producing practical, knowledgeable, efficient and competent teachers who shall contribute to the process of development in the rural urban areas of East Africa.

The combination of major & minor subjects are subject to the approval of the School of Education. Once registered a student may change subjects within the first two weeks only.

Degree ProgrammeThe School Of Education Offers A Curriculum Leading To The Award Of Post Graduate Diploma In Education, Bachelors Of Education, Bachelors Of Arts Education, Bachelors Of Science Education, Bachelors Of Early Child Education, Bachelors Of Business Education, Masters Of Education And Religious Studies, Masters Of Educational Administration, Masters Of English Language and Literature Education.

Degree Structure and durationThe degree programming must cover university-wide courses, University Common Courses, the areas of specialization courses and electives. To qualify for graduation a student is required to pass minimum requirements set by the department and subsequently the senate.

A candidate registering for a Bachelor of Education Degree takes all the courses offered in the faculty of Education and is required to combine a major and a minor in the service faculties. Such combination is subject to the approval of the department.

  • Curriculum Studies
