The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) was started in 2009 as part of the Institute of Engineering and Technology under the Faculty of Science. It then offered certificates in Automobile Engineering and Diplomas in Mechanical Engineering.
Following the conversion of Kabale University to a Public University in 2015, the department became part of the Faculty of Engineering, Technology, Applied Design and Fine Art (FETADFA).
The department envisages the training of employable engineering graduates who are responsive to challenges and needs of the community. It has experienced and dedicated lecturers specializing in the theory and practice of the Mechanical Engineering trade.
We utilize flexible teaching delivery methods such as lectures, tutorials, practicals and also engage in online learning.
To reinforce this status, the department has recently constructed, furnished and equipped a Mechanical Workshop.
Most of the areas around the department have also been provided with wireless internet access where students can gather and either study or have group discussions, wireless internet and laptop power support.
The University also signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several other tertiary technical institutions to enable engineering students access advanced workshop tools and laboratory equipment.
One of the key goals of the department is to develop more innovative programs so that our students are always at the leading edge. The department envisages the creation of comprehensive post graduate programs at master’s level and the expansion of the research spectrum through innovativeness and collaboration with relevant professional peers.
