Department of Non-Formal Training

This Department offers Competence Based-Training to applicants without requisite education requirements for admission into Formal Training i.e Ordinary Level Certificate and above. This implies that whoever completed P.7 and those who dropped out of school before completing Ordinary Level can enroll and obtain skills through Non-Formal Training.
The Training is conducted in three levels i.e Level I, Level II and Level III, all of which are examined by the Directorate for Industrial Training (DIT) and Buganda Royal Institute Examinations Council. A Certificate is issued upon successful completion and passing of the DIT and BRIBTE Exams.

Non-Formal Training Courses

The Non-Formal Training Courses currently offered at Buganda Royal Institute include:

Motor Vehicle Mechanics,
Building,
Welding,
Hair Dressing,
Cookery and Bakery,
Tailoring, among others.

The training is purely hands-on and modular in all fields. This is meant to ensure that by the end of every module, the trainee is able to grasp and apply the skills in real life experiences for self-sustainability. Our training is enhanced by industrial attachment in a relevant establishment for further exposure in the world of work.

With Non-Formal Training (NTR) therefore, nobody is a failure or a complete school dropout. NTR gives such students opportunity to acquire relevant skills for self-sustainability. This also includes people who already attained formal education at higher levels, but without practical skills to enable them to become employable and/or employ themselves.
Together, lets shift from traditional approach to education to competence-based training in this new World of Education for Life. Do not be left behind. You too can! Jobs are available in Uganda. Only people who look for employment lack the appropriate skills. Non-Formal Training is here to address this skills mismatch.
