The YMCA Kampala
Uganda YMCA was founded 54 years ago with the main thrust to develop programmes that would prepare and shape the youths into good productive citizens guided by Christian principles.
Overall, this mission was expected to be attained through numerous programmes, such as vocational and technical, indoor and outdoor as well as community-based projects offered by various YMCA branches spread in most areas of the country. The YMCA branches include; Kampala, Jinja, Mukono, Mbarara, Kasese and Mbale. Each of these branches has recognized administrative structure co-ordinated by the Uganda YMCA National Secretariat which also in turn is supervised by the National Executive Committee and other YMCA National systems.
Important to note is also the fact that each of these branches offer vocational and technical skills programmes, though at a lower level than that of the YMCA Comprehensive Institute.

- To work in close co-operation with other institutions those promote Christian principles.
- To build a self-sustaining Institution that promotes effective leadership and management based on Christian values
- Help individuals develop Christian character and values that builds the Mind, Spirit and Body.
- To provide practical skills to the youth and other stakeholders through vocational and technical programmes.
- To provide quality professional training that is affordable to the learners and pave way for future carrier enhancement.
- Impart knowledge and skills in vocational and technical fields so as to stimulate entrepreneurship development in the country.
- To promote research, innovation and skills among the youth and adults as a response to meet the new challenges in the business world and other job market areas.
- To develop relevant societal demand driven vocational and academic programmes, to recruit and retain qualified staff, as well as providing adequate learning resources
- Build capacity for generating and increasing financial resources in-flow and establish an effective and efficient financial management system.
- To establish an effective public relations and marketing system as well as an effective communication system.
Philosophy:
The Institute that provides all round education for the development of the Mind, Body and the Spiritual dimensions of life. The philosophy is manifested in the 3-dimension Triangle on the Institute Logo which emphasizes the learner’s balanced life.
