BACKGROUND

The Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery is a community health care focused private tertiary learning institution in Dokolo town council, Dokolo District in Uganda, 350km north of Kampala. It is located along the Lira – Soroti – Mbale highway.

Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery was started in 2014 to support the training of nurses and midwives. The School is a private not for profit institution supervised under the Ministry of Education Science and Technology.

OUR AIM

The school aims at eradicating self medication and late presentation to hospitals for medical care by supporting young and desolate youth who ended at lower levels of education or dropped out of school without completing their tertiary institution.

OUR GOAL:

To provide knowledge and skills through training of students to fill health workers human resource gap in order to reduce morbidity and mortality in their communities.

THE SCHOOL’S MISSION STATEMENT:

To supplement Government efforts in improving the health and well-being of society by producing quality nurses and midwives that meet National and International standards, through effective training in partnership with key stakeholders. The School achieves its mission by building a community that draws its intellectual strength from the rich diversity of people.

THE SCHOOL’S VISION STATEMENT:

An excellent learning centre delivering quality graduates leading the nation and influencing the world through the impact of our educational programs, technology, research and innovative practice on health so as to strive for professional competency in health care service.

Taken together, these three elements guide the education, research, and practice of the School’s students.

THE SCHOOL GOVERNANCE:

The School Board oversee the smooth running of the school, recruitment of staff, and ensure discipline of both students and staff with the aim of upholding the school motto “Compassion and Respect”.

STUDENTS’ DISCIPLINE:

Discipline is of high priority in the School. All members of the Institution believe that Compassion and Respect can only be achieved through good discipline. The School and Guild Disciplinary Committees ensure that disputes are settled amicably as they arise. Each student receives a copy of rules and regulations on admission to the school to which he/she consents.

STRUCTURES:

The school has got various structures to accommodate both male and female students and staffs which include classrooms, skill laboratory, Dining hall, multipurpose hall, students’ hostels, ablution library and teaching staff’s quarters.
The school also has games pitch, musical instruments and van/bus as transport means. Plans for expansion of the School’s infrastructure are also underway so as to offer a variety of Courses as well as increasing the facilities available for students.
